Where They Differ

Output and honest room size

The 211i Max publishes an AHAM CADR of 410 cfm and a rated room of 635 square feet at 4.8 air changes per hour. The Vital 200S publishes 250 cfm for smoke, 254 for dust and 289 for pollen, and a rated room of 388 square feet on the same basis. Both makers also quote one hour coverage, 3,048 and 1,875 square feet, but the ratio between the two machines stays the same whichever figure you read: the Blueair delivers roughly two thirds more clean air.

Shape, intake and placement

The Blueair is a 22.7 inch cylinder that breathes through a fabric sleeve on all sides and suits a position out in the room. The Levoit is a 19.8 inch box that breathes through its front, so it can stand close to a wall, and its perforated face is easier to keep visually tidy in a furnished room. In a narrow room the Levoit's front intake is a real advantage; in the middle of an open floor the Blueair's 360 degree intake comes into its own.

Filter upkeep in a pet home

Both put a washable layer first: a fabric sleeve on the Blueair, a flat pre-filter on the Levoit, and both then rely on a combined particle and carbon cartridge. The Levoit adds a dedicated pet mode and an air quality monitor with a colour ring on the body, while the Blueair reports richer particle detail through its app. In daily pet ownership the difference is small; in filter terms the Blueair cartridge is the larger, less frequent purchase.

Questions, Answered

Is the 211i Max worth the step up from the Vital 200S?

Only if your room can use the air. Above about 400 square feet the extra CADR is the difference between meeting the recommended air change rate and falling short of it. Below that, both machines meet the rate, and the Levoit's lower tier and pet features are the better value.
